The short answer

If your solar output has dropped, the inverter is showing errors or your bill has crept up, get the system checked by a licensed electrician. NG Elec does fault finding, inverter replacements, cleaning, bird proofing and thermal drone inspections on any system. On a Gawler commercial roof, built-up dirt burnt the cells and the whole system had to be replaced.

Is this you?

Signs your solar needs a look

Output has dropped

Your app shows less than usual for the weather, or your bill has crept up but your usage hasn't.

Inverter errors or no output

Fault lights, error codes, tripping or a blank screen.

Dirt, damage or birds

Heavy grime, cracked or cloudy glass, or pigeons nesting under the panels.

A recent hail storm or big wind

Hail damage isn't always obvious from the ground, and output can drop before you spot anything.

It's been years since anyone checked

The Gawler system went unchecked until dirt burnt the cells. A routine check is cheap insurance against that.

What we do

What we fix and service

Any brand, any installer, homes and businesses. Please don't get on the roof to check. Damaged panels can still carry live current.

Fault finding

Inverter errors, tripping, zero output. We test the system and track down the cause.

Inverter replacement

A dead or ageing inverter swapped, often for a battery-ready hybrid from Fronius, GoodWe, Sungrow or Sigenergy. See solar inverter replacement.

Thermal drone inspection

Our DJI Matrice 4T, flown by a CASA-licensed pilot, finds hot spots, cracked cells and dead strings without anyone walking on your panels. See thermal drone inspections.

Cleaning and bird proofing

Solar panel cleaning stops dirt overheating cells, and bird proofing keeps pigeons from nesting underneath.

Safety and health checks

Isolators, connections, cabling and output checked and tested by a licensed electrician.

Insurance work

Storm, hail and impact damage assessed, reported and repaired. See solar insurance repairs, or panel removal and refit for roof work.

How it works

From first call to fixed

  1. Tell us what's happening

Call 0425 322 552 or send the form with what the inverter or app is showing. A photo of the inverter screen helps.

  2. Inspect and test

A licensed electrician checks the system on site, and we fly the thermal drone where it helps pinpoint the panels at fault.

  3. Clear, itemised quote

We explain what's wrong in plain English and quote the repair before any work starts.

  4. Fix and test

We repair or replace what's needed, then test output so you know it's working properly.

Pricing

What affects the price

Repairs are quoted once we know what's wrong. As a guide from typical NG Elec jobs in 2026, incl GST: a solar inspection and report starts from $220, and an inverter replacement is about $1,800 to $2,200. Thermal drone inspections are normally $750 incl GST, or $149 for a hail-season home hail check. Every quote is free and itemised. See our price guide.

Case study · Gawler, SAThermal drone inspection of a commercial solar roof in Gawler

In October 2026 our thermal drone inspection of a commercial roof in Gawler found built-up dirt had overheated cells across the array, leaving panels burnt and damaged. The whole system needed replacing, damage that regular cleaning and checks would have caught early.

FAQ

Questions people ask us.

Do you fix solar systems installed by other companies?

Yes, including systems where the original installer has gone out of business or stopped answering the phone.

My solar isn't producing. What should I check?

Check the inverter screen or app for error messages, and that the solar isolators and the solar breaker in your switchboard are on. If it's still not working, call us. Please don't get on the roof to check. Damaged panels can still carry live current.

How often should solar panels be serviced?

It depends on your site. Panels near the coast, farms, dusty roads or trees, and low-tilt panels, build up grime faster and need more attention. On a commercial roof in Gawler, built-up dirt overheated the cells until they burnt, and the whole system needed replacing. Regular cleaning and checks would have caught it. Our guide on when to schedule solar maintenance has more.

Can a thermal drone find faults I can't see?

Yes. Damaged and faulty cells run hotter, so they show up on the thermal camera even when the glass looks fine. We pair it with a zoom check of every panel and give you a written report.

How much does an inverter replacement cost?

On typical NG Elec jobs in 2026, replacing an inverter is about $1,800 to $2,200 incl GST. If we need to find the fault first, a solar inspection and report starts from $220. Every quote is free and itemised. See our price guide.

Is it worth repairing an old system?

Sometimes. If it's a single failed part, a repair usually makes sense. If the inverter's dead and the panels are small and old, an upgrade might be better value. We'll tell you straight which way we'd go.

Do you do insurance work?

Yes. We assess and repair storm, hail and impact damage and give you a report and quote for your insurer. In hail season, our $149 thermal hail check is the quickest way to find out what's damaged.

What hours do you work?

Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Call 0425 322 552 or send the form and we'll book a time that suits.
