The short answer

A solar insurance claim usually needs evidence of the damage and a repair quote. NG Elec provides both: a thermal drone and zoom inspection that pinpoints cracked cells and hot spots, a written report with a licensed electrician's recommendation, and an itemised repair or replacement quote. In hail season, a home hail check is $149.

Is this you?

Signs your solar may be damaged

Hail or a big storm in your area

Hail can crack cells without breaking the glass, so damage isn't always obvious from the ground.

Lower output than usual

Your monitoring app shows less than you'd expect for the weather.

Cracked or cloudy glass

Visible damage you can see from the ground. Please don't get on the roof to check. Damaged panels can still carry live current.

Inverter faults

New error codes or tripping after a storm.

A neighbour's getting panels replaced

If their system took a hit, yours may have too.

What we do

What we handle for your claim

We inspect, report, quote and fix, so you're dealing with one contractor from start to finish.

Thermal drone inspection

A DJI Matrice 4T thermal and zoom camera over every panel, flown by a CASA-licensed pilot. See thermal drone inspections.

Written damage report

A panel map, flagged panels with thermal and zoom images, inspection conditions and our recommendation, ready to send to your insurer.

Itemised repair quote

Every part named and priced, so your insurer can assess the claim.

Electrical safety check

Isolators, cabling and inverter tested by a licensed electrician.

Repair or replacement

Damaged panels, inverters or the whole system replaced with approved components, from AIKO, Jinko and Trina panels to Fronius, GoodWe, Sungrow and Sigenergy inverters.

“the install was organised and implemented in a very efficient, professional and safe manner.”

How it works

From storm to sorted

  1. Call us after the storm

Call 0425 322 552 or send the form. Stay off the roof, as damaged panels can still carry live current.

  2. Inspect and report

We fly a thermal and zoom inspection on a sunny day and send you a written report.

  3. Quote for your insurer

You get an itemised repair or replacement quote to lodge with your claim.

  4. Repair and sign-off

Once it's approved, licensed electricians do the work, test the system and sign it off.

Pricing

What affects the price

A standard solar inspection and report starts from $220 incl GST. Insurance reports take more work and cost more, and we tell you the price before we start. The $149 hail check covers a thermal and zoom inspection of a home system with a written report, and a full thermal inspection is normally $750 (both incl GST). Repairs are quoted on what we find, and what your policy covers is up to your insurer. See our price guide.

  • Roof height and access
  • Home or commercial system (commercial inspections are quoted)

FAQ

Questions people ask us.

Does home insurance cover hail damage to solar panels?

Many policies do, but it depends on your policy, so check with your insurer. We give you the evidence and the repair quote; the decision on the claim is theirs.

Will my insurer accept your report?

The report includes thermal and zoom images of each fault, the inspection conditions and a licensed electrician's recommendation. That's the kind of evidence insurers ask for, but the decision on your claim is always theirs.

How soon after a storm should I get my panels checked?

As soon as you can. Hail damage isn't always obvious from the ground, and a report close to the storm makes it clearer what was damaged and when. Our guide to hail damage on solar panels explains what to look for.

How much does a solar inspection report for insurance cost?

A standard solar inspection and report starts from $220 incl GST. A report for an insurance claim takes more work, so it costs more, and we'll give you the price upfront. In hail season, the $149 hail check is often the quickest first step. See our price guide.

What does the $149 hail check include?

A thermal flyover of your home array, a close-up zoom check for cracked glass and frames, a written report with flagged panels, and a repair or replacement quote if we find damage. Thermal inspections are normally $750.

Do you repair systems other companies installed?

Yes. We inspect, quote and repair damaged systems whoever installed them. For other faults, see solar repairs and maintenance.

Do you do commercial insurance work?

Yes. Business rooftops and larger arrays are quoted on system size and reporting needs.

What if the whole system needs replacing?

If your cover allows, we remove it and install a new system with current approved components. It's also a good time to think about adding a solar battery, which we can quote separately.
