Bird proofing stops pigeons nesting under your solar panels by fitting mesh around the edge of the array. NG Elec clears out nesting material where it's safe, fits the barrier without drilling into your panels and checks the system while we're up there.

To stop birds nesting under solar panels, close the gap between the panels and the roof with mesh fitted around the edge of the array. It keeps pigeons out but still lets air flow, so output isn't affected. NG Elec inspects the array, clears accessible nests and debris, fits the mesh and flags any damage the birds have caused.
Is this you?
Noise on the roof early in the morning, often right above a bedroom.
Mess on paths, cars, outdoor areas and the panels themselves.
Sticks, feathers and debris washing into gutters and downpipes.
Pigeons ducking under the edge of the array is a sure sign there's a nest.
What we do
A neat, low-visibility barrier, fitted properly, with the system checked while we're there.
We check the array, roof, cabling and the size of the gap before recommending a barrier.
Accessible abandoned nests and loose debris are cleared where it's safe. Active nests may need specialist advice first.
Mesh guards or low-visibility perimeter barriers, chosen to suit your roof and mounting. No drilling into the panels.
Nesting and droppings can damage cabling. We look it over and flag anything that needs repair.
Bird mess shades cells and can make them overheat. Add a panel clean at the same visit.

FAQ
Nests, droppings and debris hide wiring, can damage cabling, block gutters and make a mess of paths and outdoor areas. Droppings on the panels also shade cells. A barrier stops birds getting in, so they don't keep coming back.
No. The mesh sits around the edge of the array, not over the panel face, and still lets air flow underneath.
No. The barrier is fitted without drilling into your panels.
Yes, on most home, shed and commercial arrays, whoever installed them. We inspect first to choose the right barrier, and larger or complex arrays are assessed on site before we quote.
We clear accessible abandoned nests and loose debris where it's safe. Active nests may need specialist advice before the mesh goes on, and we'll let you know if that applies.
It depends on the materials, sun and weather exposure, and the site. We use durable mesh and check it whenever we're back on the roof for a service.
For a home system, typically $1,100 to $1,600 incl GST on NG Elec jobs in 2026. The size of the array, roof height and access, and how much nesting needs clearing move the price. Every quote is free and itemised. See our price guide.
We don't recommend it. Walking on panels can crack cells, and damaged panels can still carry live current. Our guide to protecting panels from birds explains the options.
